Pekkel

What is the usual response after accidentally bumping ourselves or getting hit by something hard? The automatic response would be for us to place our hand directly on the injury and rub the pain away. Through this action, the nerves are soothed, thus dispersing any pain. In addition, such action could help balance the blood flow within the area, thus reducing any swelling and possibly prevent the development of adhesions.

Pekkel (pǝk-kǝl) is applied in a manipulative fashion that would help pave the way for the effective application of Ablon Chirothesia. To illustrate, let us take a look at a dry, hard piece of land. If water is poured over this land, the water will quickly spread over the surface and may penetrate only a couple of inches. The water, however, would evaporate in a matter of time, due to the incapability of the land to retain it. By cultivating the land, the earth is then capable of absorbing water and nurturing life.

Likewise, in cases where a naktang (hardened or stiff) state in the body has taken place, it is sometimes necessary to apply Pekkel to the lasag (flesh or muscle) in order to soften the area so that through Ablon, the urat and pennet can be reached and properly manipulated, thus nurturing a balanced flow of dara (dah-rah) or blood, nerve impulse, and other internal functions.

Compared to Ablon, Pekkel Healing is considered more soothing, is ideal for stress reduction, and can be applied from head to toe even without the presence of any specific health concerns. There are certain instances when the application of Pekkel is indicated, such as for tired and aching muscles resulting from a hard day’s work, strenuous activity, or for general health. Like forms of bodywork, Pekkel is beneficial for, but not limited to the following:

  • Improving circulation

  • Boosting the immune system

  • Reducing pain

  • Decreasing stress and anxiety

  • Encourage restful sleep

  • Improving range of motion

  • Reducing muscle tension and soreness

  • Reducing inflammation

  • Improving muscle tone

  • Promoting skin rejuvenation

  • Relieving headaches and migraine pain

  • Promoting tissue regeneration
